Wine and Chocolate?

It's Wino Wednesday!

Before I get started, I'm looking for a few Wino Wednesday guest posts in December. If you are interested E-mail me!

So I've learned a little about wine and food pairings over the years, and most of it has been purely from trial and error. I know there are suggested pairings all over the place and every nice restaurant will tell you what goes well together, but day-to-day pairings will likely vary person to person. We all have different preferences and therefore like different pairings. It's like you people who like potato chips and ketchup. I don't get it, at all, but you do!

Wine and Chocolate is one of those parings that can work or not work. I love a nice truffle with some red wine, especially one as smooth as Fog Head Pinot Noir, which I discovered last week and it's amazing! (Looking for a Thanksgiving Wine? Try it!!) So When I started seeing these chocolate wines a few years ago, I got excited!

First I tried Chocovine.

FAIL! At least for me it was. I've met people who enjoyed it, but I was definitely not one of them. It was like room temperature chocolate milk with a strong cab mixed in. At least that was my opinion.

So I stayed away from the Chocolate Wines until this week. I found this ChocolatRouge Sweet Red at Walgreens and figured I'd give it a try.

Since it actually looked like red wine instead of chocolate milk I figured it may be time to give another brand a try. I actually liked it. It was sweet, so it would make a great after dinner drink, but if you aren't a big fan of chocolate, you won't like it. Jennifer and her brother both hated it and felt like it had an aftertaste. I didn't think so, but I could definitely understand how someone who doesn't share my love of chocolate would think so. So If I were rating it, I'd probably give it like a 3.5 out of 5. It was a pretty good, and interesting. So while I may not have it all the time, I would buy it occasionally.

BUT THEN! *Stop the Presses*
I realized that ChocolatRouge is a line of three different wines!

So I had the Sweet Red. Last night, I found the Dark Red! It's Dark Chocolate notes and a drier red. So not as sweet. I haven't actually had it yet. It was late when I got home, but I plan to try it this weekend. I will definitely let you know how it is. I'm hoping it may be the perfect wine for this chocolate lover.

So how do you feel about chocolate and wine? Or chocolate in general for that matter? Do you love it or hate it?

lol... I think that 1st one is the same one my husband and I tried and it was pretty gross, so now i'm a little scared to try another. BUT I just might have to give this ChocolatRouge one a try!

I've tried chocovine before and it's a little too much for me. I'd like to try the ChocolatRouge! Sounds much more manageable.

I actually mixed the ChocoVine with another cheap Cab I had, haha. I liked it much better and I found I liked it very cold better too.

There are a few at fresh market but I have never tried one, the idea seemed/seems so weird to me!
