Wedding Truths

via
Truth #1

I am ecstatic about getting married.

Truth #2

I want to be very careful not to ALWAYS be talking about my engagement/wedding.

Truth #3

Pinterest, The Knot, Wedding Wire; they are all great, but this girl is on a budget!

Truth #4

I LOVE hearing from my friends and readers.

I know that last one isn't technically a wedding truth, but it can be. The best advice I've gotten so far was to decide what is and isn't important to me, and let the rest fall into place from there. I actually like getting advice from everyone. I don't promise to always take every piece of it, but its awesome to hear different points of view and get your stories from planning your weddings!

So what kind of advice would you give me going into this wonderful/crazy/stressful time? I want to enjoy every minute of it without letting it consume me. I want your comments!

I've never been married, but here is the best advice I have:
1) put the money in the photography.
2) don't worry about things no one is going to remember. Even those beautiful floral arrangements that I oohhhed and aahhhed over, I can't remember what they look like. :)
3) simple is sometimes the most beautiful. :)

Congrats to you!!! I'm excited to see what you come up with!

Cheap and/or simple decorations often end up making more memorable weddings in my opinion...they are highly underestimated. :)

Be proud of your wedding! Simple is always better! I also think that spending money on a photographer is WAY worth it! You want to be able to remember that day forever in good memory! Have fun and plan in small increments and it will be less stress for you! And start asap because you don't want to worry about it the last month of your wedding! Congrats!

Be as excited about your wedding as you want to be! It's an awesome day in your life. But don't forget to think about the marriage, too! It'll last much longer than the wedding itself (right?) :D Glad you're enjoying yourself!

They are all true! My advice is that when you have set ideas in mind, stop looking at the wedding blogs because you may end up comparing them to your ideas, or changing them last minute, or adding on top of what you already have, which may or may not make sense in your wedding.
good luck!

I'm planning mine too!! Because I have done this once already I know this time around it is the real deal and the ceremony will reflect that. My advice would be to do it how YOU want. Entertain ideas but don't get stuck on the "what everyone does". There is no reason it can't be EXACTLY what YOU want regardless if that looks like what the media tells us is tradition/normal or not.

I was pretty much an anti-bride at first (I didn't want a big wedding at all), but by the end, I was really pleased with how everything turned out. My advice?
1) Consider making your own invites. It's amazing what you can do with some fun fonts and colors in Word. Plus, you get exactly what you want and it's less expensive!
2) Make the ceremony and reception yours. I cut out the garter toss and first dance because they just weren't us. No one even seemed to notice they were missing!
3) We saved money by doing simple decorations. We had our reception in an art gallery, so the decorations were pretty much already on the walls!
4) Don't waste thousands of dollars on a dress. You wear it for just a few hours and then it goes in a closet. Shop sample sales if you really want a designer gown, or go to David's Bridal (they have sales, too!). I got my dress for under $600 (used to be over $1000), and the entire thing was covered in lace and sequins.

I LOVE wedding talk! I can't wait to hear all about yours!!!

Don't sweat the details because at the end of the day, you'll be married to a man you love. That's the goal, not the wedding.

When Chris and I were planning our vowel renewal I was on offbeat bride or unconvential bride, I don't remember exactly but it was a lot of DIY support/ideas!
