So last month was my one year anniversary. (All together! Awww!) Because I'm such a wino and we LOVE fall, we decided to go for a drive into the mountains and visit a new vineyard!

I'd heard about Burntshirt Vineyards back in the summer for the first time and it's only a thirty minute drive if you take the interstate. Of course we turned it into an hour drive to check out all the fall foliage.

The tasting room was packed! They had a guy playing some live music and the place was bright and cheery. I'd love to go again sometime.

I was actually really impressed with their Estate White Wine. I'm normally not a fan of white wines. They are either way too dry for me, or far too sweet. I actually liked the Estate White though. It was a blend of Grüner Veltliner with Traimenette, Vidal Blanc and Petite Manseng. Those were new to me, and perhaps that is why I liked it. It wasn't too sweet but it didn't have that bite I associate with white wines either.

Of course my favorites were reds. Their Altitude 3400 was a fantastic red blend and their Estate Rose reminded me of a phenomenal Red Moscato. We bought a bottle of each.

Because it's Hendersonville, known for their apples, they have an apple wine also. There was a coffeepot of mulled apple wine and it was incredible! We bought two bottles and a pack of mulling spices to bring home with us.

All in all it is definitely worth a trip if you're in the area. There is a very nice patio area to have a drink afterwards if you want to make a day of it and there are some pretty pathways you can walk. We missed the vineyard tour at 2:00pm but I'm sure that would be really interesting to do sometime also.

I'm several hours early to the party this month, but since I was completely AWOL last month, we'll call it even. So I've been quite the little crafter lately and earlier this week I made these beauties.

They've taken up residence on my kitchen bar and I love them! My computer ate some of my pictures, but the instructions are simple enough.

What you'll need:
Wine bottles, chalkboard paint, paintbrush, mason jars (or something that will hold your bottles upside down while the bottoms dry) hot glue, twine/rope, chalk.

I started by putting my bottles upside down in the mason jars to coat the base and let it dry. Read your can. I might not have waited quite as long as it said for the second coat, but I'm not telling.

Once the bottoms were dry enough to set them upright I finished painting them. Then I left them alone for a couple of days.

When I came back to them I used hot glue and cotton twine around the necks and tied a piece of chalk to each bottle.

These adorable little things sell at Hobby Lobby for about $8 each. I spent $10 on materials and I have enough to make tons more if I wanted. Which is good since I still have all these bottles in my craft closet.

So this is the third year of the Lexington Wine Walk. My family moved there the year it started and I've been every year. It's always such a fun time. This year it was me, two of the sisters and my Huzby.

I didn't get blown away by any new labels but I had some yummy old faves. What did we get from the Wine Walk this year? This beauty...

There is a story behind this that involves an insane face I made when I was a kid and our family's constant obsession with strange faces, but basically, it was a blast. In fairness, we all thought we were posing for a picture.

We discovered we'd all gotten older. We stayed two hours this year as opposed to waiting in line when they opened last year and then closing the thing down. I also managed not to get schwasty this year.

I hope everyone else's summer is getting off to a fabulous start! I am making a wreath for my door and I'll be posting that soon. I'm getting ready for my big spring jewelry show in Lexington this weekend. All my SC ladies in the Columbia area should swing by and say hey!

So with my busy schedule lately I haven't been able to seek out too many new wines, but a couple of weeks ago Jen and I did Wine Wednesday right and went to one of our favorite restaurants. They'd recently changed the wine menu and the house Cab was a new label.

It was delicious! Very smooth, very full flavor.

I did a little internet digging and found the label online HERE.

I wanted to know where to find in and it turns out my Publix carries it! Yay!

This weekend I had a few hours to myself and I decided to do a little crafting.

Well last week I came across this really cool yarn at Hobby Lobby and I bought it with no clue what I might use it for. All I knew was I loved the colors and I loved the Bohemian look of it.

Saturday it occurred to me that this might be a great combination.

It's super easy. I did this for some of my wedding centerpieces and it's all over pinterest. Just wrap the yarn and use a little hot glue.

I love it! I have other plans for this yarn too. More in the weeks to come :)

So the South is a crazy mess again and I'm gonna spend my day playing the Winter Wino Drinking Game again. I'm actually stuck at home today. Only crazy people or emergency personnel (thank you all!) are out in this mess today.

Winter Wino Drinking Game

Yesterday in the great state of South Carolina Govenor Nikki Haley declared a State of Emergency in anticipation of Winter Storm Leon. Now in the south we see flurries and we don't know what to do with ourselves, but when it's going to stick?

So this hilariousness that is the south in the winter calls for something fun.

To begin, start a fire in  the fireplace (in case the heat goes out). Gather flashlights and candles and ensure you have a working charcoal grill or a well stocked propane tank.

Next gather your wine. Depending on the number of people playing you could need as many as 5 bottles.

Pour your first glass and turn on the TV. Bonus drinking for facebook users!

Take one sip

- When a TV show is interupted for a weather update.
- Anytime the newscaster tells you not to go outside if you don't have to.
- Each time a new school announces it will be closed.
- For every unclear picture of snow on the ground.
-For every person who posts "where is the snow?"

Take two glups

-When an on-site anchor is telling you how bad the storm is from an area where ITS NOT SNOWING!
- Everytime you see this shot of Atlanta
 
- For every picture you see of cars sliding off the roads
-For every pic of a bundled baby in their first snow (so cute!)

Finish that glass and pour another

When you realize that you will still be getting up at 6AM to go to work.

 

For real though, if you're in this part of the country, keep safe and warm!

I have a confession to make.... My Christmas tree is still up.



Basically, me last night. And it was cold. I know everyone is talking about how cold it is, but our heat simply can't keep up and I was an ice cube!



So in a nutshell, I've been a bit of a lazy wino this week.

In other news, I found this site, Wine Trail Adventures. I can't wait to explore some more and see what I can find. It's social networking for winos!
